Wellington Foodies Kids was created by Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution Ambassadors' Lucy Mutch and Debbie Lanz in January 2013.
Their dream was to create a set of cooking classes that would give children essential cooking skills and not just teach them how to make cupcakes!
Debbie returned to Texas in January 2014 where she is carrying on her amazing work as Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution Ambassador.
In early 2014 Lucy was joined by Ania Upstill from the Local Food Network and Hayley Hopwood who is a teacher at Hutt Valley High.
Ensuring that your child has a good relationship with food is integral to their development and well being. A child that has an understanding of what they eat and that is encouraged to cook, will make better food choices. They will have more self esteem, be happier and healthier.
We believe it's important to use the best possible ingredients and never compromise on quality. We only use 100% fresh produce, freedom farmed or organic where possible and are firmly against processed food, additives and un-natural colourings.
We are all about fun and variety. Each of our classes is based around a global theme. Whether we are making tamales and tortilla's, sushi, Thai noodle salad, healthy pizza, pasta or bread, it is all about keeping it fun, educational and hands on. Children can make as much mess as they want in our kitchen!
We're not just about cooking.... We want every child to go away with an understanding of where their food comes from. Debbie; our nutrition specialist will explore the benefits of eating a variety of different fruits, vegetables and herbs in a "fun fact" Q and A. Each child will plant three different herbs that they'll be able to take home and nurture.
All classes are hosted at Crave Cooking School in Lyall Bay in Wellington which is a purpose built professional kitchen run by a lovely team.
